Inky Beginnings….

When is a sketch not a sketch? When you get a bit carried away with a picture….

After setting up my scene and inks, I plotted the shapes in pencil before inking it in. I intended to rough out an idea for a painting, but not naturally one for doing things by half, I didn’t quite succeed in getting my thoughts quickly on paper – the pattern looked so appealing, I just had to include it…

I masked the shapes with liquid frisket and worked up the tones in layers. The shapes really started to shine once the mask had been removed…

Then (of course) comes the nerdy detail in fine line pen…
