about
“I like to study. I like to look. I like
to try and find the ignored detail, the idiosyncrasies, the unique qualities
of the subject matter." - Caroline Rudge 2004
Artist Caroline completed a BA in Fine Art at the University of Wales Institute,
Cardiff. Her paintings of the time, described as both humorous and subversive,
explored the relationships humans have with animals. These works have subsequently
been exhibited in Wales, Birmingham and Bristol.
Caroline has painted David Hockney set designs for Cardiff Theatrical Services
and displays for the Kneehigh Theatre. She has one collection of paintings
and murals in 'The Olde Bath Arms' in Frome and another in ‘Cubros’,
a restaurant
in Midsomer Norton. She has a number
of permanent artworks installed in locations across Somerset and is always looking
for new opportunities and outlets for her practice.
Caroline's
long-standing interest in portraying animals in her art stems from her empathy
with the animals she depicts, which helps to convey a character and depth
sometimes lacking in traditional animal studies. Her contemporary and individualistic
approach to the subject stems from her belief that each animal is unique,
and so deserves a painterly response suited to their character.
Caroline currently lives and works in Wiltshire, UK.
